Abandon Ship!

Well, well, well.

It seems like I've abandoned this blog. For quite a while (since October '08) I've lost the want to post anythingand keep a blog. I'm a person who will do things because she wants to, not because she has to (apart from schoolwork and chores that is). So, I do hope nobody feels anger or hate towards me. My time has now come to part with this blog. It'll still be up for a while though before I delete it (I might change my mind...). Perhaps one day I might create a new blog and well...blog.

The Invasion of Army Worms

Southern Army worms are 'invading' a town in Tasmania's south. These worms, in their hundreds and thousands, are crawling their way into farms, driveways and homes. One holiday maker stepped outside her car only to find the ground moving beneath her.

A local resident, Ms Raoul says, "We decided that we had to set up a kind of barrier so our friend down the road lent us some oil which I rang council and asked them if I could just put it on the perimeter of outside. That has managed to stop them actually leading in directly into the driveway but of course they then make their way around," she says.

Marion Bay, the victimised town, is prone to such 'invasions.'

A Department of Primary Industries spokespersons states that these caterpillar's are not poisonous, although they are a nuisance.

Road Trip!

I've just come back from a road trip. By car, my family and I travelled interstate, to a city which is home to two of the most unique architechtures in the world. During my holiday, I have experienced some of the most craziest things I might ever see or do. I wasn't planning to blog about it, but, oh well...it is too funny not to tell anyone.

The Woman who Smokes(in public resrooms)

I, along with a sibling, walked in to a Ladies restroom. Just as we had relieved ourselves, I smelt smoke, and a lot of it. I opened the cubicle door and found...a woman smoking like there's no tomorrow. I was gobsmacked. I wanted to yell, "GET OUT", but instead said "The person in the other cubicle has asthma" Oh. My. God. Obviously the woman said sorry, but really, was she poor? Because she didn't have any common sense(geddit?)!!!

Pooey Surprise

When a toilet door has an 'Out of Service' sign, don't open that door. Well, unfortuneately I did and found faecal matter splattered all over the toilet bowl and seat, along with some on the wall and floor. It also smelt quite bad. Bad experience, but great to laugh about.

Flash Mob

One of the coolest things I've ever seen. A real live flash mob! It is a form of street art, which for those who know me, know I love it. Anyhow, as I was walking along the city's harbour, there are thirty or forty people frozen. Eeek! It was a Freeze Flash Mob. A reporter and a camera man from a national news channel were also there. I tried to participate by just walking in and standing still with my icecream, but it was sadly a little too uncomfortable for me, and my slowly melting icecream. But to describe it in one word, it was awesome!

Tunnel Jam

I warn you, avoid traffic jams but most importantly, I warn you even more to avoid tunnel jams, the most horrible form of traffic jams. The air smells toxic, (car exhaust fumes), it's kind of creepy and you don't know when the tunnel will end.

Creepy Crystal Caves

If you are ever able to go and visit a limestone cave system, full of crystal filled caverns and an underground river, then you must. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and despite the fact we were not allowed to touch anything in the caverns, apart from the hand rails, haha, I've touched crystal, a limestone wall and drank dripping water from a stalactite(a parental unit encouraged me to break the rules, hehe).

Reflective Thinking on a Book

I've finally finished an extremely unique novel. It is a story with an unusual plot, and unusual characters. However, I actually enjoyed it!
So, what is this novel about?
*drumroll* Zombies, or a.k.a in the novel 'The Undead,' 'Corpsicles,' 'Worm-Burgers' (which are all derogative terms by the way). But, to be politically correct, you can, no, should, call them Differently Biotic.

Throughout the reading of the novel and the eventual completion, I had a question swirling around my head. It was whether I would've been pro-Zombie, or anti-Zombie? You see, in the novel, American teens are coming back from the dead. Many people feel scared and worried, thus the attitude of hate, spite and being anti-Zombie. Still, there are some sympathetic people. Some of the Traditionally Biotic (hey, thet's us! The 'Breathers,' 'Blood-bags' or plain ole' humans) students of a high school in the novel make friends with the zombies. If this were to be true, would I have been a Hater or an Accepter? (not sure if it's a word...)

I think I would have trouble deciding. It depends on what my faith would say. I don't want to get political here, but I am quite of a believer in God. Right now, I have no answer. But I would like to think I would accept the zombies, sorry, I mean Differently Biotic, and help them. Eventually, I could then befriend them.

Sorry for all the rambling, but what would you say or do?

The Blonde Brownie

Lately, my tastebuds have had a fancy for a brownie, since the day a beloved friend of mine gave me a brownie her sibling had baked. After an unsuccessful quest to find that baking masterpiece's recipe, I went out on a quest to bake my own. Sadly, I didn't have an cocoa or any cooking chocolate. And then, I found the secret of the Blondie. A brownie without the cocoa content!

I searched online for a few Blondie recipes, thinking that they'd mostly be all the same. My, how was I wrong! But after an hour or so, I found The Recipe, and with a few variations of my own and here it is(This is for you, A.A and Irregular Kiki a.k.a The Chicken Lover).

Ingredients

-1 cup self-raising flour

-1 dash salt

-1/3 cup butter

-1 cup brown sugar

-1 egg beaten (use 2 if they are small)

-1 tablespoon vanilla extract

-1/2 cup white or dark chocolate chips

-1/2 cup chopped walnuts(*optional, which I didn't use)

Method

1) Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C. In a bowl, sift together flour and salt. Add chopped nuts*. Set aside.

2) Melt butter, add brown sugar and mix. Add egg and vanilla and blend well with a whisk or a hand mixer, 3-4 minutes or until mixture whitens. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing well. Stir in chocolate chips.

3) Spread into a 9 x 9 inch (20 x 20 cm) greased pan. Bake at 350°F/180°C, 20-25 minutes, or until tester inserted in centre comes out clean.

Note:The batter is meant to be gooey and thick, unlike cake batter(which worried me becuase I didn't know that before!) Also, you may want to add a little more sugar, or just add chocolate icing on top.

These Blondies will taste kind of like choc-chip cookies. Yum!

The last time I posted was a long time ago, way before I sprouted another head* on my left shoulder. I guess I fell into this weird unexplainable phenomonen, where I couldn't be bothered to blog. OMT!* Did I just say that!? I had exams, a couple of very important school related deadlines and the computer I used to blog and do all internet-related activities was sick. It was full of viruses(with enough viruses to send a computer technician into tempoary paralysis). So I thought hey, I'm going to take another break after taking a break of three weeks or so. Hehe, me and my laze-craze.
Alors, j'ai retourne! (Well, I have returned-not sure if I'm 100% correct with the grammar and all).

You say it's as creepy as The Exorcist? Well, I say no. I watched the movie on Forward. The only time Play was pressed when it went all dark and spooky on screen. Any scary parts? No. A young member of the family who was too scared to go change into their pyjamas before the movie because of all the hype which was being made about how scary The Blair Witch Project is said" How Dumb." Yes, it scared the pants off me.

2. Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Nice kiddie action movie. Watched it in 3D.

3.Choc-Chip Cookies
Yum!

4.Movement Composition for PhysEd
Bleh. Boring. I couldn't dance if it were to save my life. But I sure can boogie 70's style with my parter in crime, you you'll all know by the name of Irregular Kiki(the owner of Kiki's Randomness blog).

5. Electro/Dance/Pop/Disco
Check out the song 'Ready on the Floor' by the Hot Chips. This is what I like. Is it disco? I don't know. Oh, 'Electric Feel' by MGMT too. (...you shock me like an electric eel...:D ).

Recently (well, okay, two or three weeks ago) I borrowed a book called Extraordinary Events and Oddball Occurrences by Gary L Blackwood. As I was reading this book, I came across a very interesting chapter, called Skyfalls. I thought that since it’s a really spooky, weird and yet so fascinating subject, I’ll write about it (and to constitute the lack of informational posts).

A skyfall is just exactly what the Fortean event implies-something falling out of the sky. The falls can happen during bad stormy weather, or even on a perfectly sunny, cloudless day.

The vast type of object which have fallen from skyfalls an be anything from the strange to the even stranger, with alligators, apple, corn, snakes, stones, jellyfish, fish, frogs ad even candy.

The most common objects to fall in a skyfalls are fish and frogs. Fish falling from the sky is so frequent that it’s an annual event in a remote village in Honduras, where the villagers gather on a large, grassy plain at the beginning of the rain season, where tens of thousands of sardines fall to the ground. This event is called Lluvia de Peces

Other skyfalls include:

• In 1877, Memphis, Tennessee, thousands of foot long snakes fell from the sky.

• In 1867 Louisiana suffered from a skyfall of salt.

• In1880 Ozark, Arkansas and then six years later in Charleston, South Carolina and then also in 1921 in Chico, California, there had been reports of skyfalls of small rocks/stones.

• In 1940, Central Russia, there was a skyfall of silver coins.

• In 1976 banknotes fell in the streets of Limburg, Germany

• In 187, Lake County, California, there ha been two separate incidents of rock candy crystal showers.

• In 1939 Angola, Africa, a country which was suffering in a drought with the locals in nearstartvation, there had been a skyfall for a couple of days. It had be a sweet, sticky substance, which was actually honey.

• In 1876, the residents of Kentucky suffered from a skyfall of small flakes, which looked a lot like meat. One opinion on the skyfall was that he flakes weren’t meat but nostoc, a kind of freshwater algae. B after examination by doctors using microscopes, the flakes were identified as lung tissue from humans or horses.(Ewww)

•For nearly a century, a town in India experiences an occasonal downpour of smal blue-green beads, with cmall holes for threading.

Some of the theories on where do the objects which fall in skyfalls appear from are quite strange, such as the fact that ‘objects could conceivable drop in from some parallel universe, through electromagnetic “channels”(proposed by Damon Knight, an author of a biography on Charles Fort) Or a similar theory which states a fault or wormhole may have opened up between dimensions, allowing things through. (This is based o modern physics).

A Fortean theory (proposed by Charles Fort himself) is that there is an unseen region above us called the Super-Sargasso Sea, where objects are held in suspension. He stated that ‘periodic violet storms shake some of the accumulation loose’, thus the skyfall. Another hypothesis by Mr. Fort is that object might have been transported from one place on earth to another, in other words meaning teleportation(Cue Dr Who, Harry Potter, etc…music now).

Finally, there is another much more logical yet not so comprehensible premise that tornadoes suck up the objects which fall in skyfalls.

26 Cheerleaders+Elevator=Trouble

A nothing-to-do-with-this-post-but-so-adorable image.

Texas, USA-26 cheerleaders, all aged 14-17, were stuck on an elevator(or lift) at University of Texas' Jester Hall. The girls were 'experimenting' if they would all fit. The girls went down from level four to level one, when the doors just wouldn't open! A few('cause it was really crammed) managed to whip out their phones and called for help. Police and firemen were called, and after 25 minutesn they were free.

“It’s dangerous actually,” said Rhonda Weldon, director of communications for the UT Police Department. "They’re lucky that that’s all that happened."

One girl fainted and was taken to hospital. Another two were treated on the scene

“Take the sign seriously,” Ms. Weldon said. “There are signs everywhere: No more than 15 people or 3,000 pounds.”

Guess they aren't thin and light enough either.

When you are cutting onions, hold your breath. Breathe from your mouth. I've experimented whenever the parental units order me to vut onions, and it works. But if you do breathe in from your nose, then it won't.

Also, when at school, and trying to convince a teacher you were paying attention in class and are interested in the subject, show enthusism, and a lot of it. Smile a lot, and ask 'clearification questions' about whatever you were learning.

A woman called Emergency Services after a visiting friend, who eventally got drunk, wouldn't stop talking for 30 hours.

The 48 year old encouraged her rambling friend to leave, but she just wouldn't budge. First she called an ambulance, who refused to carry her friend out. Her only resort now was to call the police.

Lately, Ive had a ot of trouble falling asleep. Usually, I'd be aslep by 12, but now, I am awake until 3am. It disturbs me and I know that many of my friends suffer from this 'complication.'

Now, to have a sweet slumber you should:

1.Don't drink any caffiene before bed.

2.Don't eat anything that might make you go hyper, like candy(yum!) befire going to sleep.

3.Don't exercise before going to sleep. It'll get your body all jumpy and energetic.

4.Try and relax yourself. Get a routine ready for getting ready to go to bed. Read a book maybe.

5.Don't listen to fast pumping music that might want you to get up and dance.

6.Drink a cup of hot chocolate or Milo.
7.Heat your room up if it's cold(but not too much, as it might make you feel uncomfortable). Keep it dark and quiet.

8.Use aromatherapy if necessary to calm yourslef and to feel sleepy. Lavender is good.

9.Imagine yourself sinking into your bed. CLose your eyes. Deep breaths.

10. Think calming thoughts.

11.Find some ambient music so get you sleepy.

12.Don't use the computer before going to sleep.

13.Find a cuddly pet chicken to cuddle at night. The chicken will give out an aura of soothing sleepiness so you will, 100% fall asleep.

The Next Generation of Barcodes

I am quite fascinated with this piece of technology. The square shaped, wierd pixel thingy is quite a remarkable thing, and tres chic, in my opinion.

QR codes, or also known as smart codes, are just like the normal price barcodes you see on products at the shopping centre. A price barcode can hold upto 20 digits, but a QR code can hold upto 7000 digits and 43000 alpha-numeric characters.

A QR code (smart code) is usually a 2cm by 2cm square barcode. These barcodes contain URL's, text and numbers. All this information is encoded into the barcode, and when scanned by your mobile phone, you are then able to access the information. Only 3G phones have this technology. But if your handset is compatible, then you can dowload the required software to scan QR codes.

QR codes were first developed in Japan and were first used in 1994 by a Japanese automotive company, called Denso Wave, to track auto parts they've manufactured.

QR codes are mostly found in Japan(where all the cool technology is) and are becoming popular in Asian, European and American markets. In Australia, Telstra, one of the nation's largest telecomunications company, are now embracing this technolgy. QR codes can almost be found on anything that you may need more information from.

QR codes are a shortcut for mobile internet user to get what they want, when they want it. For example, you see a poster for the newest Hollywood flick while waiting for your bus. You see the QR code, whip out your 3G phone, and dowload all the information you need about the screening times of the movie, video interviews with the actors of the movie and the movie trailer. All this information instantly!

These codes don't always have to be in black and white. They can also be in colour and designed as art too(as seen above), without loosing any of the information it contains.

Phat Pancakes

This is very off topic. But this is Random Irregular Obeservations, and this is what I've 'observed.'
Mmmmm..... pancakes.

Here is a vey simple recipe that Irregular Kiki found on the internet. After she emailed me with it, I gave it a go. Delicious :)

Note:I halfed the recipe, which made four medium sized pancakes. I also found that there wasn't enough sugar, but maybe that was because I used brown(raw) sugar, which is delicious to eat on its own.

P.S: About the Mission. I will try to get to it ASAP, but I have all this other rubbish to do now, so *sob* I might have to scrap it- for now.

Today's Reportings

Well, I normally don't write about what I've done, but since I'm feeling bored, I will.

Today my friends and I(this includes Kiki from Kiki's Randomness Blog) Doughnut Circled. Now, I hear you say what is doughnut cirlcing. Simpily put, it is just to link arms with your friends, form a circle, and walk whilst rotating around in a circular motion(like a tyre). Or you can skip in a straight line. Very random, very fun.

Another thing which I did was yesterday. I graffitied my desk at school with a grey lead. Lately I have been reading MAD Magazine(or is it a comic?), so that's my inspiration. Here is the picture:

Woot Woot, 50 Posts

OMG!
I have posted 50 posts now[though, if you look at it, it's 51 now]. I can't believe it. All that time(a time at which I was supposedly completing my beneficial-not- homework) I blogged. And bloged. Mission News

Hopefully I'll get everything done and ready by next week for the mission, but no guarantees. By now, many agree that a medium levelled 11-20 mission would be suitable.

Now, for all those people who want a mission for the meantime, The CHERUB Mission 2008 is a mission where you need to take a picture of the CHERUB logo at a werid or wacky place. You can also make an original video too. There is a point system and rules. The top rated entries will go into a draw to win something that I'm- not-so-sure-about. Tree Vandals!?

There are tree vandal in this part of town. Oh no.

On my way to school, on the freeway/highway, there was one of those road information boards on wheels, which is orange and the message is shown in lights. Anyway, the message read:

'Tree Vandals at work. Please call ********* if you have any information'

This gives me utter disappointment, that even the environment isn't safe. The majority of the trees that line the side of the highway were cut down. Okay, know that buildings and nice, big, graffitiable walls are great for vandals, but trees?! They provide us with the Gas of Life, Oxygen. If you know a Tree Vandal, or are ne, STOP IT NOW!
